In the past months, Utah Jazz shooting guard Donovan Mitchell has been the subject of various trade speculations.
The Jazz may have said they have no intention of trading Mitchell, but after they suffered a first-round exit in the 2022 NBA Playoffs, rumors about his future in Utah have started to heat up.
With the Jazz stuck in mediocrity, most people believe it would only be a matter of time before Mitchell finds his way out of Salt Lake City.
Though he is yet to demand a trade from the Jazz officially, Mitchell has already been linked to several teams that could be his potential landing spot this summer. These include the Miami Heat.
According to Brett Siegel of Sports Illustrated, the Heat are among the teams that Mitchell "would be interested in" joining should he and the Jazz decide to part ways in the 2022 NBA offseason.
"Almost every team in the league would show trade interest in Mitchell if he was to request a trade out of Utah, but the Miami Heat and Atlanta Hawks are two other teams besides the Knicks that Mitchell would have interest in, sources familiar with the Jazz guard noted."
Even if Mitchell specifically demands a trade to Miami, the Heat would still need to come up with an intriguing offer to convince the Jazz to engage in a blockbuster deal.
In a recent article, Addam Goldman of Fadeaway World suggested how the Heat would be able to acquire Mitchell from the Jazz this summer.
In the proposed trade scenario, the Heat would be sending a trade package that includes Tyler Herro, Duncan Robinson, and a 2023 first-round pick to the Jazz in exchange for Mitchell.
The proposed blockbuster deal would be worth exploring for the Heat, especially if they once again fall short of achieving their main goal this season.
By sacrificing Herro, Robinson, and a future first-round selection, the Heat would be acquiring another superstar who would help Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo, and Kyle Lowry carry the team next year.
Aside from helping them further improve their offense, Mitchell would also give the Heat a player who could step up and lead the team when Butler needs to rest or suffers an injury.
The hypothetical deal would also make sense for the Jazz if Mitchell is determined to leave the team.
Instead of keeping an unhappy superstar on their roster, the Jazz would be swapping Mitchell for two young sharpshooters in Herro and Robinson and a future first-round pick.
Herro and Robinson may not be as good as Mitchell right now, but they could fill the hole he would be leaving in the Jazz's backcourt. If they decide to undergo a full-scale rebuild, the Jazz could make Herro and Robinson the centerpiece of the next title-contending team that they will try to build in Utah.
